The interrelationship of the economic system with energy consumption shows that it is simplistic to assess the Embodied Energy of products considering only the consumption of machinery, transport and every human action is linked to a high production chain. Abstract

The interrelationship of the economic system with energy consumption shows that it is simplistic to assess the Embodied Energy of products considering only the consumption of machinery, transport and every human action is linked to a high production chain. If you proceed in the manner described is neglected a fundamental part of work that carried out by nature. In addition, we oppose the relentless expansion of the boundaries of consciousness of each individual. The theory that the paper brings to light the economic system has been chosen only for its simplicity and the importance it gives to the community. Any other current economic theory does not ignore the holistic thrust that brings all to live the place and time of each other sharing the "spaceship earth". From these considerations it is possible to understand the foundations of two methods of sustainability assessment (input-output & process) which are derived from international standards and certifications. These tools are not intended to completely rebuild the economy by basing it on Embodied Energy or to help achieve the state of rest of an economy in balance. But they are tools based on concepts that characterise the third and fourth “era in energy” and is in itself a basis for innovation aware of the limits of the planet and the limitless possibilities of research.
