Università di Venezia IUAV is operating a research to identify, design, develop and verify tools for a better and more comprehensive evaluation of medical devices and services. The purpose of the research is finalized to provide these tools either to: .Medical operators/organizations at the moment of the purchasing decision (post-assessment). .Designers, engineers and customers at the moment of design (pre-assessment). The aim is to pinpoint and tune up methods and tools to assess the value of a medical product beyond its mere price tag, taking into regard also the other costs and sides that show up in its service life. The final intent is to favour the adoption of medical products with higher quality and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). The discipline of Industrial Design serves as methodological model to reduce the complexity of information to be taken into account in order to devise a viable tool set for purchasers and/or designers who must efficiently evaluate a medical product.
