In recent decades, the construction industry has experienced a digital revolution that involved the entire building process. It is not just a technological innovation that has affected the production and viewing of the project through the transition from 2D to 3D. Arriving to Building Information Modelling (BIM) we have available a multidimensional tool that promotes a new work methodology for designing and building activity in the construction sector: It involves the generation of a 3D model of the building, which also manages the data connected to materials, components, systems during the whole life cycle. The growing development of BIM has changed the paradigm of construction industry and all stakeholders: in addition to the technological aspects (software and design tools), the building should be considered as a process throughout its life cycle and has also changed the approach by users and the policy makers that had derive new standards and standardization. In general, BIM software uses several virtual models built in 3 dimensions and add also the time evolution becoming 4 dimensions and costs arriving to 5 dimensions. All this permits to increase productivity and efficiency, to reduce costs in the early stages of design and construction and to facilitate the operation and maintenance after construction.
