In this paper the authors present a model for the identification of a Regional Potential Ecological Network using GIS technologies (Least-Cost Path Algorithm). The input for the model is a Land Use Map and Natural Protected Areas GIS data. The model is applied both to the current situation – as individuated by the current Open Data release of Land Use Map of Region Veneto – and to a Test Scenario. The Test Scenario is a modification of Land Use Map according to the Transportation Plan of Veneto Region. The barycenters of Natural Protected Areas are the First-Level Nodes of RERP. They are analyzed using some fragmentation indexes and an index of potential urbanization of habi-tats. Current situation and Test Scenario are analyzed also using indexes of Graph Theory. The RERP model is applied to the prevention and mitigation of the hydrogeological risk.
