Quite recent appearance of a large number of publications dedicated to the issue of boredom confirmed the importance to consider by renovated attention both the extent and the effects of boredom on contemporary societies, and the impossibility to consider boredom in a single disciplinary perspective, expecting therefore an interdisciplinary approach to boredom. However, differently to other disciplines – as philosophy, literature and psychology – sociology has marginally considered boredom as its own object of study. From this perspective, this essay wants to show a possible interdisciplinary path of social research on boredom starting from looking into the works of Martin Heidegger, Walter Benjamin e Henri Lefebvre. By this investigation the essay assumes that the Philosophical Oriented approach to the Social Research could be a fruitful resource of sociology to face the important questions raised from interdisciplinarity issue of social research on boredom. In the conclusion of this essay it is underlined the desirability of this approach, pointing out some important limitations.
