This book – the third one dedicated to the documentation and dissemination of the outcomes of the Erasmus Intensive Programme “Archaeology’s places and contemporary uses” - presents the last edition of the design workshop, which was attended by 40 students from 15th to 28th of September 2011, for the first 4 days in Sicily and then in Venice, at the University Iuav. The volume reassembles lectures concerning the design and the study of the archaeology’s places, with some contributions to the discussion from the participants, the descriptions of the places and the projects drawn up by students, as well as a short story by photos of the activities and the six stages of the travelling exhibition. The designs focused on works of architecture, like coverings for the areas of excavation, parts of enclosure, paths and architectural structures for the protection and the enjoyment of the places. The needs of conservation and improvement are related to the need for a designing research, aiming at the redevelopment both of the particular archaeological areas and of their urban context or landscape, which are able to include contemporary architecture within or at the edge of the archaeological areas.
