There is a di erence between invention and innovation . The Cold Formed Steel used in construction isn’t an innovation because its rst widespread ap- plications date back to the mid-1800s . The Cold Formed Steel described in this text and in this book is an innovation, because it meets a whole string of current demands such as low cost, environmental sustainability and exibility in the constructive process. Furthermore, it develops taking advantage of the innovations that characterize our age, the age of information, in which it is possible to work and collaborate among many, making a single project with the speci c skills of each participant. An important example of this dynamic is precisely the collaboration between SPH Ltd., a company that works and builds with the Cold Formed Steel, and Arrex Spa, leader in the production of nishing and furniture. The processing techniques that use these matched technologies, meet the most challen-ging questions about the appropriateness and the quality of the building, answering to the questions that have characterized research and stu- dies in the history of architectural technology. The research developed in Iuav and the production that demonstrates the excellence of SPH and Arrex in this innovative sector show, not only, how it is possible to value the highest wor- king and professional skills, make the construction process exible and save energy and non-renewable resources, but also, how we can grow developing a virtuous network for the exchange of information and competence.
