The book is an extensive analysis of 30 documents related to the design of vegetative roofs and façades/walls, with a view to identify the quality and effectiveness of the current requirements and suggestions for green/vegetative technologies and systems. This study will identify if existing documents are still applicable to the newest, state-of-the-art green technologies and applications, or if they are outdated, insufficient, or irrelevant. A “vegetative systems” is a technological system onto which vegetation is intentionally grown. Among several layers, it includes vegetation, growing media and water (irrigation or storm water). Of the 30 documents examined, 12 are standards developed exclusively for green/vegetative systems. The remaining 18 documents are handbooks, building codes, city codes, etc., which were included in this research to understand if standards and other "official documents" provide enough information to ensure that safety and success is achieved in the design, construction and maintenance of green roofs and vegetative façades/walls.
