This essay focuses on the theories and the techniques of construction and representation of garments, starting from a historical research which aims at individuating specific operational modes that, across history, apparently never quit measuring the human body in order to define those geometrical rules that are able to control the free forms in motion of the subjects and of the garments that dress them. Designers choose every time if it is the geometry of the human body, or that of the clothing, which dictates the design strategies. Thus, between the two-dimensional design of the paper pattern and the planar development of the surfaces of an outfit sculpted upon the body, the answers to the intersections can be found in the digital representation methods.

Abstract
This essay focuses on the theories and the techniques of construction and representation of garments, starting from a historical research which aims at individuating specific operational modes that, across history, apparently never quit measuring the human body in order to define those geometrical rules that are able to control the free forms in motion of the subjects and of the garments that dress them. Designers choose every time if it is the geometry of the human body, or that of the clothing, which dictates the design strategies. Thus, between the two-dimensional design of the paper pattern and the planar development of the surfaces of an outfit sculpted upon the body, the answers to the intersections can be found in the digital representation methods.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
