The lagoon is a dynamic system. Its unstable balance is the consequence of multiple natural and anthropic phenomena. Some of these reflect extremely long processes which affect the whole planet, others are temporary or even transient as tides are. The water hides archaeological finds but also dissolved matters and organic elements, which can be analysed for describing Venice’s and the lagoon’s evolution through their own. The substance of water contains the past and the future of Venice, therefore by knowing its concealed dynamics we can comprehend and conceive the necessary future transformations. The long history of interplay between freshwater and saltwater expresses the need to think of the conservation of Venice in an adaptive and ever-changing perspective.

Abstract
The lagoon is a dynamic system. Its unstable balance is the consequence of multiple natural and anthropic phenomena. Some of these reflect extremely long processes which affect the whole planet, others are temporary or even transient as tides are. The water hides archaeological finds but also dissolved matters and organic elements, which can be analysed for describing Venice’s and the lagoon’s evolution through their own. The substance of water contains the past and the future of Venice, therefore by knowing its concealed dynamics we can comprehend and conceive the necessary future transformations. The long history of interplay between freshwater and saltwater expresses the need to think of the conservation of Venice in an adaptive and ever-changing perspective.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
