By analysing 450 newspaper reports, the chapter examines the transformation of memory frames in the narration of the Fossoli camp after its closure as camp of transit. If in the 1970s and 1980s the memory of the camp seems geographically scattered and temporally non-synchronized at the national level, in the 1990s and 2000s we see a gradual centralization and synchronization of memorial occasions. The official commemorative days 25 April, 27 January and 10 February play nowadays a pivotal role in the representation of Fossoli, intersecting different frames of memory.

Abstract

By analysing 450 newspaper reports, the chapter examines the transformation of memory frames in the narration of the Fossoli camp after its closure as camp of transit. If in the 1970s and 1980s the memory of the camp seems geographically scattered and temporally non-synchronized at the national level, in the 1990s and 2000s we see a gradual centralization and synchronization of memorial occasions. The official commemorative days 25 April, 27 January and 10 February play nowadays a pivotal role in the representation of Fossoli, intersecting different frames of memory.
