Very few cities in the world are as stubborn as Venice: with a “hedgehog” approach, the city was built by repeating, finally assuming the appearance of a coherent fabric, which evenly covers its extension. Though, very few cities in the world are as unpredictable as Venice: with a “fox” approach, the city was built by steps and is able to adapt itself to different situations. The “hedgehog” and “fox” figures fit into a longer list of metaphors used to understand the city. The new opposition was proposed to the students in order to explore how to cope when the city faces with new available areas, which seem to be bare and marginal. Would Venice build itself by confirming and reinterpreting or by inventing and adding?
