This critical edition proposes a new annotated translation of G.B. Shaw’s play Caesar and Cleopatra (1899) into Italian and includes the original English text, along with the English-Italian text of Shaw’s Preface to Three Plays for Puritans, part of which Caesar and Cleopatra originally was. It provides an introductory essay which discusses the origins of the play and its role relevance within Shaw’s corpus. The play’s themes, critical reception, and stage history are also analysed, in a general reassessment of the text as well as of Shaw’s Italian reception.
