This critical edition presents a new annotated translation of G.B. Shaw’s play “Caesar and Cleopatra” (1899) into Italian and provides an introductory essay that investigates the play’s genesis, its relevance within Shaw’s corpus, its main themes, and critical reception and stage history both in Great Britain and Italy. The introductory essay also discusses the origins of the play and its role and relevance within Shaw’s corpus, thus oeffering a general reassessment of the text. The present edition includes the play’s original English text, along with the English-Italian text of Shaw’s “Preface” to “Three Plays for Puritans”, part of which “Caesar and Cleopatra” originally was.
