The reconstruction of Friuli after the earthquakes of 1976 is an example of an overall positive response to the recovery of heritage and the community development after a disaster. The success factors of the reconstruction process are linked to the system of bottom-up delegation, the conservation of the pre-existing urban fabric, and the use of innovative techniques and homologation tools adopted in their application by technicians trained for the purpose and working in close contact with public administrations and the inhabitants affected by the earthquake. The significance of the Friuli experience is also reflected in the comparison with other post-earthquake reconstructions chronologically close, such as the cases of Belice and Irpinia. Starting from the study of the Friuli reconstruction, it is possible to identify valid characters that can be carried forward and updated for future reconstructions.
