Appunti per ri-progettare la casa

Il progetto di riuso deve riflettere sul grado di strutturazione da un lato degli spazi e dall’altro delle attività. Oltre a identificare i valori del costruito esistente, deve individuare i diversi gradi di costanza organizzativa e permanenza formale, le potenzialità e i limiti sino ad arrivare al punto di resistenza alla trasformazione. D’altra parte, deve mettere in discussione – rovesciando l’approccio – il modo consueto di abitare. Il progetto di riuso può quindi costituire un ambito privilegiato per una lettura contemporanea dello spazio che, come condizione necessaria, metta in discussione unitamente il motivo del suo strutturarsi: la funzione. Con processi di andata e ritorno, intersezioni, tentativi, per giungere a un nuovo – quanto provvisorio – punto di equilibrio che risponda all’uso e valorizzi l’esistente, il progetto può lavorare sui vincoli non intesi come limiti ma come congenita apertura ai possibili di cui il progetto di architettura è interprete. Lo spazio della casa obbliga in modo particolarmente stringente a mettere in discussione sia le funzioni, gli usi, sia la qualità e l’organizzazione dello spazio. The reuse project must consider hand in hand the degree to which spaces are structured and what happens inside them. In addition to identifying the existing building’s values, it must determine the varying degrees of organizational constancy and formal permanence, the potential and the limits up to the point in which the structure resists transformation. It must also, however, take the opposite approach, questioning the usual way of living. The reuse project can thus constitute a privileged context for a contemporary reading of the space, one that necessarily questions both the structure’s reasons and function. Through back-and-forth processes, through intersections and attempts to reach a new – albeit provisional - balance that responds to use and enhances what already exists, the architectural project can work on constraints, understood not as limits but as a congenital openness of which it is the interpreter. The space of the house makes it necessary to question, in a particularly stringent way, both functions and uses, and the quality and organization of the space.
