Il tema del margine. Progetti urbani di Francesco Venezia a confronto.

The theme of the margin represents a central issue in the urban design of the contemporary city: growing urbanization has in fact produced a series of solutions of continuity both between parts of the city that are different in character, and between the widespread city and the urbanized countryside. The settlement dynamics of the last fifty years have in fact determined the emergence of urban unsolved, unresolved places with a particular character, which still require a design response. The research identifies those strategies capable of implementing a mediation between the primary elements of the city and the urban margin, questioning whether and to what extent the composition, at the scale of the architectural project, is still able to respond to this role, building, as in the past, the places of human living. Rejecting the idea of ​​urban margin intended as a limit, analyzing and comparing three urban projects of marginal areas by the architect Francesco Venezia, the thesis investigates how they are able to give answers to the contemporary city through the search for its reconnection with tradition and reinforcing the idea that architecture marks and determines mutable space and time by transferring to man again, within the urban space, the awareness of a renewed temporality. In this perspective, Francesco Venezia, applies in composing a poetics of the project where the time of attractiveness, of suspension looks to the past putting us in the condition to imagine a new future. Starting from these assumptions, the research rereads the projects assuming the coexistence of meanings of a different nature: the first that identifies the limit as a topological device that coincides with the capture of space, separating and connecting two heterogeneous realities, the second that intends the limit as a manifestation of the threshold place that emerges as an area positioned unstably between inside and outside, between the inside and the outside.

Il tema del margine rappresenta una questione centrale nel progetto urbano della città contemporanea: la crescente urbanizzazione ha prodotto infatti una serie di soluzioni di continuità sia tra parti di città differenti per carattere, sia tra città diffusa e campagna urbanizzata. Le dinamiche insediative degli ultimi cinquant’anni hanno infatti determinato l’insorgere di insoluti urbani, luoghi irrisolti dal carattere particolare, che richiedono tuttora, una risposta progettuale. La ricerca individua quelle strategie in grado di attuare una mediazione fra elementi primari della città e margine urbano, interrogandosi se e in che misura la composizione, alla scala del progetto architettonico, sia ancora in grado di rispondere a questo ruolo, costruendo, come in passato, i luoghi dell’abitare umano. Rifiutando l’idea di margine urbano inteso come limite, analizzando e confrontando tre progetti urbani di aree marginali dell’architetto Francesco Venezia, la tesi indaga il modo in cui essi siano in grado di dare risposte alla città contemporanea attraverso la ricerca della sua riconnessione con la tradizione e rafforzando l’idea che l’architettura scandisce e determina mutevolmente mutevole spazio e tempo trasferendo all’uomo nuovamente, all’interno dello spazio urbano, la consapevolezza di una rinnovata temporalità. Il questa prospettiva, Francesco Venezia, applica nel comporre una poetica del progetto dove il tempo dell’ avvenenza, della sospensione guarda al passato mettendoci nelle condizione di immaginare un nuovo futuro. Partendo da questi presupposti, la ricerca rileggere i progetti assumendo la compresenza di significati di natura diversa: il primo che identifica il limite come un dispositivo topologico che coincide con la cattura dello spazio, separando e collegando due realtà eterogenee, il secondo che intende il limite come manifestazione del luogo di soglia che emerge come zona posizionata instabilmente tra interno ed esterno, tra il dentro e il fuori.
