Presented herein is a review of experimental and numerical results of the compression behavior and collapse modes of pultruded FRP (fiber reinforced polymer) columns. The aim is to propose an updated summary-review useful in both the research and the design field. The study compares the structural performance of columns made by single pultruded shapes and complex columns, whose sections are the result of the connection of FRP pultruded profiles, of FRP/ concrete, and of pultruded profiles with hybrid fibers. In the specific case of the FRP/concrete column, the limitations and benefits are discussed. The survey provides some final directions on the structural behavior and on the failure modes of all the types of columns. As regards the design, the reliability of the individual models is verified and available formulas with respect to the detection of the lower value of critical load, as well as the open questions, especially for the complex columns, are presented.
