G124 is the Renzo Piano’s working group focusing on italian peripheries since 2013. During 2016 the group has been working on Marghera, in the mainland of Venice. The project aims to collaborate with the citizens and the associations which are dedicated, through their everyday actions, to the reactivation of abandoned and unused public areas and buildings. Within this frame, participatory design becomes an essential tool for the development of civic engagement with urban regeneration processes. G124 team’s work seeks a new dialogue between citizens and institution in order to introduce a new participatory way of managing the “commons”; as proclaimed by the italian constitution through the principle of subsidiarity.
