The essay seeks to investigate the ways of representing Saint Antony’s Basilica in Padua throughthe work of important photographers: the Alinari Brothers, Dome- nico Anderson, Augusto Gislon, Costante Agostini, Elio Ciol. In this discussion, pic- turing the church from a specific viewpoint is intended essentially as a category of seeing where the photographer’s task is to transform the photographic space into an evocative image and to savor the sense of light as living matter. Architectural space at the Santo is also endowed, by these photographers, with a fundamental ethical value in the construction of a memory of the place that takes on value in re- affirming our collective identity.
