Since its first reappearance in the ’30 of Quattrocento, the 'impresa' is a Renaissance sign par excellence, representative and communicative of the specific individual virtues of the owner. The essay aims at highlighting how 'impresa' is important by different points of view - conceptual, philosophical, historical-cultural, iconographic. Mainly interesting are the considerations of the first humanists who propose theoretical reflections on the issue: Paolo Giovio and Girolamo Ruscelli.
