After the tragic flood of 1966 that showed the fragility of the city of Venice to all the world, the Italian Government supported numerous safeguard interventions on the city and its lagoon. These funds concerned above all public works (institutional buildings, public pavements, bridges), but also private buildings that constitute Venice urban tissue. The author has studied about one thousand interventions on private buildings with non-repayable funds where the main type of interventions has been identified. The research shows a complex picture of the building interventions in Venice that should be understood as a cross section of building activity in Venice from 1984 till 2003, when the State support has been cancelled.
