Abstract

Sophocles' drama composition "Oedipus the King", built on the rhetoric of the double and focused on Oedipus' character, in his unresolved identity of tyrannos, reveals the absolute power of one against the power shared between many, in such a way as to signify the end of the Athenian democracy of 5th century BC, as well as the end of the tragic form of representation, and to prefigure historically in the western culture the violence of the univocal discourse (logos) against the plurivocal (mythos).
