The Val di Cornia Parks system is an important experience of environmental and cultural valorisation promoted by five Municipalities of Tuscany and built on shared urban planning policies. In 1993 the Municipalities constituted an own public company to make the whole project economically sustainable: the goal was to ensure more profits avoiding the costs were covered through a higher taxation towards the local communities. In 2002, the five Municipalities signed an agreement establishing the full sharing of profits and costs due to the valorisation project. After a first period of success, in the last years this experience has been living a huge crisis because of the decision taken by the most populous Municipality not to share the revenues collected by itself anymore. Such a decision is a violation of the agreement of 2002 and - especially - has been causing an important economic loss to the other public bodies. As a consequence, it also attempts to the sustainability of the whole project. The paper aims at considering eventual legal solutions to the recovery of this unique experience of environmental and cultural valorisation.
