The history of Venice is deeply connected with the history of travel. Documented travel practices related to religion, culture or leisure date back to at least Medieval times. This very issue always affected both; the quality of life for residents and the travelers' experience. Over the course of the centuries Venice has been struggling between these two poles. Until today. The growth of internet-related practices since the beginning of the 21" century finally led to a shift from over-tourism to hyper-tourism, resulting in a commodification of space and experience. It is therefore surprising that the usage of digital technologies that amplified today's mass tourism industry could be helpful in tackling their negative effects.
