Exactly one year after the birth of the “Mediterranea Saving Humans” project, the first collective diary of the sea rescue missions was released. Cosa può una nave (Roma 2019) is a multi-story tale in which images and chronicles of aid to shipwrecked people alternate with some political-theoretical reflections on today's migration system and its management by international governments. The book, with illustrations by Claudio Calia, comes out in January 2020 as the Mediterranean Editions, and finds reflection – translations from and into both languages – in the contemporary publication of n.119 of the famous magazine of political philosophy South Atlantic Quarterly. The action of Mediterranea is moral and civil disobedience. Disobedience to the nationalist and xenophobic public discourse and to the interdiction of witnessing what is happening in the Mediterranean; but obeying constitutional and international law, the law on the seas and general human rights, including the obligation to save those who are in danger convey them to a safe harbor. For this, Mediterranea decided to bring a ship flying the Italian flag to the sea, prepared to monitor, but also ready for rescue, knowing better than ever that saving one life in danger means saving all of us, bringing one life to freedom means opening all our minds to freedom.
