This article reviews the two days of the seminar Deconstructing paradigms of Western thought organised by IUAV Doctoral School of Urbanism in Venice in May 2022. The aim of the seminar was to consider some emerging approaches that question some paradigms of Western thought in order to highlight how spatial research and design are affected by this encounter. The authors of two books were invited to join the discussion: Sébastien Marot, author of 'Taking the country's side, Agriculture and Architecture', and Antonio Di Campli, author of 'La differenza amazzonica, Forme ed ecologie della coesistenza'. Two perspectives guided the discussion within the respective meetings: how to do research and design Beyond Nature and Nurture and what Decolonial means from the point of view of urbanism. Through the review of the seminar, the article intends to bring the discussion on research and design back to their political and epistemological dimension through renewed tools that take into account the current crisis conditions and the critical reflections arising from them.
