The seismic risk analysis of a historical architecture requires to evaluate the presence of artistic assets along with other factors. The provisions of the Italian legislation link the quantification of the seismic risk of an artistic asset to the analysis of its nature and state of preservation. Requiring the collaboration of several disciplinary figures and the synthesis of research relating to data not always visible, the analysis is often complex. With reference to the insights offered by a case study, the present contribution investigates the possible existence and definition of vulnerability factors of a mural painting. These factors are based on the execution technique, considered in relation to the application of pigments but also in relation to the thickness and composition of the preparatory plaster. In particular, a multiscale analysis of the overlap of vulnerabilities is proposed that investigates not only the stratification of the layers (wall, support, preparatory layers and paint layer) but also the connections between them.
