The aim of this paper is to reflect on the debate triggered by some documentaries recently released in the Canadian province of Quebec. In particular, the essay attempts to intersect the analysis of documentaries with the horizons of “cancel culture” and “cultural appropriation”. A thought that demands of artists and filmmakers the ability to modulate their cinema between freedom of expression and full respect for the right to self-representation and direct expression of native peoples.

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to reflect on the debate triggered by some documentaries recently released in the Canadian province of Quebec.
