In the last two decades, the application of greenery systems in complex constructions – such as tall buildings, extended façades, panoramic terraces, even infrastructures – has become more popular, due to the appreciation by building occupants and marketability for developers. In addition to the positive reception from general public, city governments and polices encourage designers to incorporate green roofs (and also vegetative façades) on and around buildings, thanks to the multiple environmental/urban benefits provided by the vegetation and the draining layering. As a consequence, new technologies are constantly placed on the market by manufacturers. For all these reasons, the safety performance of green roofs and vegetative façades represents a prior topic to be analyzed. Indeed, developers, builders risk insurance and building insurance companies, as first, have raised questions regarding fire safety and wind design of greenery systems set in unconventional placing and risky contexts. The paper provides the results from an updated systematic review of the safety performance in all the existing international standards (and also guidelines and “official documents” like reports published by State control bodies/Institutions/Associations), in order to find strengths and weaknesses of safety performance of greenery systems.

Abstract
The paper provides the results from an updated systematic review of the safety performance in all the existing international standards (and also guidelines and “official documents” like reports published by State control bodies/Institutions/Associations), in order to find strengths and weaknesses of safety performance of greenery systems.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
