“La Rivista di Engramma” presents a short extract from the book "Architettura. La differenza italiana" by Alberto Ferlenga, published by Donzelli Editore in 2023. The book investigates the reasons for a crisis in the social role of the Italian architect in the world, taking up themes that the author has already been dealt with in essays and appeared scattered in magazines, exhibition catalogues, conference proceedings, books on the discovery of other architects, and project reports, reconfiguring them in a new guise. In this new form, these essays, rewritten and examined in depth on purpose and accompanied by all the bibliographical references, resonate like a warning to awaken the consciences of today’s Italian architects so that they may come out of the “comfort zone” of a correct professionalism or an academicism that wearily repeats concepts that are no longer up-to-date from the point of view of critical elaboration.
