Some remarks on the development of an intervention methodology for the evaluation and improvement of the overall quality of the indoor environment of school buildings are proposed. The main parameters that infl uence the energy consumption of the building range from climatic conditions and construction characteristics, to actions on building services and energy systems, from the operation and maintenance of the building to the activity and behavior of the occupants, without forgetting the environmental quality provided. All these elements cannot be analyzed in separated compartments, but must be integrated into a single project.

Abstract
