The research aims to develop a knowledge-based system of the state of conservation of the Teatro Olimpico as a preliminary step to the project of conservative restoration of the scenes and the pro- scenium. The current research project results from a collaboration between the Università Iuav di Venezia, the Superintendency of Verona and the Municipality of Vicenza. The research involved different aspects, combining historical-documentary research with analyses on the building and geometric knowledge of the state of the art. The collected data were processed and linked within the HBIM environment in order to obtain a three-dimensional model that could relate the information inferred from the different disciplines. This tool allows the link of critical knowledge, thus inferred from archival-biblio-iconographic sources, scientific knowledge, derived from the sur- veys and investigations conducted on the building, and operational guidelines, involving both the as- sessment of the state of conservation and future conservation actions to be carried out on the Teatro Olimpico. The goal of the HBIM model applied to the Teatro Olimpico is to relate information of a different nature, which must interact in order to develop a conservation-restoration project, ensuring the possi- bility of continuous updating of data and monitoring of the state of conservation of the cultural heri- tage. From a legislative point of view, the Italian landscape is directed toward using digital information models to manage design information on cultural property as well. The challenge is to understand whether there can be criteria for the specialization of the architect working on listed heritage, as well as other figures working in the same field.
