The children's tale in the title represents a small exception to Warburg’s veto not to publish any material from the Schlangenritual conference. In spite of the simple and childish style with which the ritual is here narrated, and for all the text’s brevity, the tale is of great interest because it contains such symbolic nuclei as the necessity of rain, the lightning bolt, the snake, and the mask, all of which were central to Warburg’s argumentation. The article was published anonymously in the children's newspaper “Jugend Insel” by Berlin-based publisher Jugendbücher. Aby Warburg and Fritz Saxl’s joint authorship is confirmed by a receipt from the publisher and the correspondence with Judenbücher.

Abstract
The children's tale in the title represents a small exception to Warburg’s veto not to publish any material from the Schlangenritual conference. In spite of the simple and childish style with which the ritual is here narrated, and for all the text’s brevity, the tale is of great interest because it contains such symbolic nuclei as the necessity of rain, the lightning bolt, the snake, and the mask, all of which were central to Warburg’s argumentation. The article was published anonymously in the children's newspaper “Jugend Insel” by Berlin-based publisher Jugendbücher. Aby Warburg and Fritz Saxl’s joint authorship is confirmed by a receipt from the publisher and the correspondence with Judenbücher.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
