Starting with an overview of the involvement of Michelangelo in the project of the cycle of the twelve Apostles statues for the church of Santa Maria del Fiore, the article aims to establish the documentary and construction history of the sculptor's residence in Borgo Pinti, his involvement in it, the cost, size, precise location and characteristics of the house. By studying a significant number of unpublished or scarcely investigated documents, it is possible to follow the history of the unforgotten architectural project, which Michelangelo abandoned for having gained the patronage of Pope Julius II shortly before the assignment of the Sistine Chapel vault frescoes.
