The essay analyze show the exceptional high-tide events that occurred in Venice in 1966 and 2019 can be considered as two historical moments when the representation of the lagoon ceased to adhere to a “classical” cinematic-photographic logic. Starting from the “ecstatic” dimension of the two acqua granda phenomena, the contribution seeks to highlight the water's ability to act as an elemental medium capable of challenging a premeditated imaginary of the catastrophe.
