The L’Aquila-Foggia royal sheep track, also called the King’s Sheep Track or Great Sheep Track, with its 244 km is the longest and most important of the Italian sheep tracks. On it from the Gran Sasso, Sirente and Majella massifs passed through it, heading towards the vast pastures of Tavoliere delle Puglie. It is a path traced in the valley bottom, which crosses the entire length of the L’Aquila basin. The Great Sheep Track, only apparently disappeared, historically and physically constitutes the main axis of the road network that has developed over the millennia, it carries with it the millenary traces of activities linked to the natural resources of the region: pastoralism and livestock farming. Along the roads, the cultural heritage consists of material evidence, the presence of civil, military and religious settlement structures distributed along the entire route. In addition to all this, there is an intangible part of the same cultural heritage, including customs, traditions, stories and legends.
