The destruction and demolition of buildings following the 2010 earthquake left numerous intra-urban voids throughout Chile's central valley. These voids, mostly located in historic city centers, were reactivated by local actors through a combination of legal interpretations and market opportunities, supported by local metis, in a distinctive practice of urban rewriting: the proliferation of parking lots. In Talca, these spaces have been functionally reintegrated, revealing the coexistence of informality and the neoliberal logics of urban space production in Latin America.
