The paper deals with a possible methodology for to sustainable upgrade of building where prefabrication systems have been used. Between the beginning of '60's and the middle of '80's, techniques of construction using heavy prefabricated construction systems have been used within the Italian construction sector to build burdens examples of social housing architectures, built in an historical context when the need for “quantity” was the primary target, earlier than needs such as energy efficiency, performance levels matching the occupants needs, etc. Many of these buildings still exist, but present clear signals of functional inadequacy, building pathologies and performance lacks. These problems not only prevent from obtaining the ideal requirements for occupants, but also the basic safety and comfort (thermal, acoustic, lighting, etc.) basic needs. The proposal is to methodology of intervention for the sustainable upgrade and reconfiguration of such buildings for possible technical and functional adjustments.
