Brownfield” redevelopment projects are currently considered to be one of the key factors for urban regeneration: cleanup and redevelopment of these areas can contribute to maintaining or enhancing the quality of life, improving recreational opportunities, enhancing environmental quality and other public goods, and creating new employment opportunities. Public agency are devoting significant financial resources to these projects and several attempts have been made to assess the value of a brownfields for public and private agency. This paper offers an overview of the possible way to proceed to an economic valuation of brownfields and suggest an indirect way to asses how much is a brownfield worth by investigating developers preferences regarding remediation and reuse
