Using the 130 documents I collected and transcribed, the authors study the first house of Francesco Sforza at S. Polo and Filarete’s project to rebuld it (1456-60): in the case of the Ca' del Duca we examine Benedetto Ferrini’s projects (1460-2) which required a façade alla veneziana, following the one already begun by Bartolomo Bon, with an interior alla milanese: we prove – finally - that Filarete had nothing to do with the project for the Ca’ del Duca. With respect to Filarete’s famous description and illustration of a palace in Venezia, we show that it is really a re-elaboration on a grand scale of his projects for the house at S. Polo, and nothing to do with the Ca’ del Duca. The contribution of Bon (1457) to the Ca’ del Duca is analysed in detail as well as his stylistic and cultural ties to the world of Donatello and Marcanova and his spectacular door of SS Giovanni e Paolo.
