The green roof is characterized by an interesting thermal behavior particularly in summer season, thanks to: its consistent mass and thickness, the presence of plants that use solar energy for their physiological functions, and the presence of water. The green roof is “a cold surface”, unlike most of the constructed surfaces which, in summer, during the hottest hours of the day, can reach very high temperatures, above 50°C and even 60°C contributing to the urban heat island effect. This research analyzes the temperatures of an innovative extensive green roof during the hot season. The sample green roof – which is placed in the Venice hinterland – is characterized by highly drought-resistant vegetation and an intelligent irrigation system aimed at reducing the use of water. The tested irrigation saves the water resource, accustoms plants to limit of their water-need, and, as a consequence, reduces the biomass production. Monitoring the temperatures of the support course helps to understand the links between vegetationsubstrate- water with the climatic elements, in order to make the green roof system more efficient.

Abstract
Monitoring the temperatures of the support course helps to understand the links between vegetationsubstrate- water with the climatic elements, in order to make the green roof system more efficient.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
