A wall is a wall but its reasons and implications are different: it can be ordered to protect, to delimit the domestic environment or an industrial area, but also to isolate people on a racial basis or to delimit gate communities and divide economic-social differences. In the border area all flows are controlled and, materializing, it becomes a machine that decomposes and sectorizes the individual elements of which it is made (not only objects but also people) which then recomposes in a generic way, or excludes, in the "spaces of Suspension". The border becomes interactive architecture, it changes depending on the citizenship, it is biopolitical architecture, more or less porous depending on who crosses it, and it rises with the function of enclosing and suspending the foreigner in an "outside space" where the horizon disappears both for those who are closed out and for those who are closed in. For this, the research observes, in the border: the inside, the outside and what is in between; compares the different realities that describe the map of the real world, made up of walls and barriers, of shattered, discontinuous territories and not only on a large scale but also within individual cities and even buildings. The research highlights the antinomian game between inside and outside, between the system of inclusion and exclusion which, in an opposite process, typical of the relationship between formal and informal cities, generates a positive dualism and reveals the space of the border as an emblematic expression of urban dialectics. This is a hypothesis to be able to suggest a fusion between antithetical, formal and informal realities, resolved in an "ultra-informality" of settlement that contains the materials on which to structure: an inclusive and reactive process in relation to the presence of the border wall.
